Project notes

What this project shows

This dock project was about creating something durable in a setting where the environment mattered. I had to think through placement, stability, material handling, and the sequence of building near the water.

The work moved from preparation into installation and finish. Each stage depended on getting the previous one aligned well enough that the dock would feel stable and intentional when complete.

The project stands out because it combined construction fundamentals with a specific place. The result had to work visually, structurally, and practically.

Step 1

To start this project, I created a ledger and attached it to the concrete wall using expansion bolts. This became the strongest support in the project. After that, I created a small ledge for people to walk and sit on, with a slight overhang. I then dropped the structure one foot and built out toward the water and jet ski platforms. I added long center support beams running the full length of the dock, then installed the support posts in the sand to hold the dock up. I had to make sure there were no mistakes in the dock's level or the height on either side.

Step 2

Next, I added all the planks to the top of the dock to make it look finished and secure for people to walk on. I used a random pattern to limit excess wood offcuts.

Step 3

Next, I added all the side trim, and it was almost done. It just needed a few final touches.

Step 4

I added bumpers to make sure the jet skis would not hit the dock at a harmful angle. Finally, it was done.
